The building was originally used as the village school before the completion of the present Primary School, which was opened in 1848 and is situated beside St Peters' Parish Church.

The Village Hall has now reopened after the toilets have been upgraded to enable disabled access, and the wiring in the kitchen area has been replaced. A lot of the work is being done with local volunteer labour, supervised by a local builder with electrical and plumbing being undertaken by fully qualified contractors.
